Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Assessments and Documentation
I write and provide patients after an individual proper professional assessment for Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letters for home and air travel.
If you’re not familiar with ESAs, they are distinct from Service Animals for people with disabilities. A service animal is trained to assist its owner in completing everyday tasks. They can legally go almost anywhere its owner can go.
An ESA, on the other hand, does not need to be trained or certified. However, their presence mitigates distressing symptoms, increased ability to complete everyday tasks, improve quality of life, work, and socializing. It is only legally protected in two places under US federal law: Housing (under the Fair Housing Act, which requires landlords to allow ESAs without charging pet rent) and flights (under the Air Carrier Access Act) a client an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letter. Additionally, some airlines want additional paperwork, which I can complete for you.
